UK transport technology company Journeo has launched Next Stop Announcement (NSA), an integrated passenger information system designed to help bus and coach operators comply with accessibility regulations while simplifying ongoing equipment management.
The solution combines onboard displays and audio equipment with automated route information updates and remote monitoring. Journeo confirms that the system has already been installed on more than 40 vehicles operated by Ipswich Buses.
The launch comes as operators in Great Britain implement the Public Service Vehicles (Accessible Information) Regulations 2023, commonly referred to as PSVAIR.
The regulations require most local bus and coach services to provide audible and visible information about routes, direction of travel and upcoming stops.
Compliance requirements have been introduced gradually according to when vehicles first entered local service, with the main implementation period extending through October 2026.
These measures are intended to improve accessibility for passengers with visual or hearing impairments, while also helping those who are unfamiliar with a route.
Journeo's NSA system integrates onboard hardware, content management and remote equipment monitoring.
One of its main functions is the automatic updating of route and stop information using open data and existing operator systems.
According to Journeo, timetable adjustments and route changes can be incorporated without manually reprogramming individual vehicles or arranging additional depot visits.
The system is also connected to the Journeo Portal, which provides centralized visibility of equipment status, fault reporting and passenger information content.
This allows operators to identify technical issues and manage updates across their fleets.
The technology has already been installed on more than 40 vehicles belonging to Ipswich Buses.
Depending on individual vehicle requirements, the installation includes passenger information displays, amplifiers, speakers, hearing loops and diversion switches.
Ipswich Buses reports that the system supports passengers with different accessibility requirements while reducing the operational effort involved in managing onboard information.
The operator also identifies automated route updates and equipment monitoring as important features for long-term maintenance.
Journeo designed NSA for both existing vehicles and new buses entering service.
The system can be installed as a retrofit solution or integrated during vehicle production, allowing operators to introduce consistent passenger information functionality across different parts of their fleets.
For transport operators, maintaining accurate route information after the initial installation is particularly important. Changes to routes, stops and timetables require passenger information systems to remain updated throughout their operating life.
By combining automated content management with remote diagnostics, Journeo aims to reduce manual maintenance requirements while supporting ongoing accessibility compliance.
