Pressure Switches
Pressure switches are commonly used in industrial and automotive applications where an electrical signal must be generated when a specific pressure level is reached.
This signal can be used as an input for system control or as an alert signal.
Pressure switches play an important role in monitoring the pressure of fluids that operate mechanical and electrical systems. By converting a defined pressure value into an electrical signal, they enable system functions such as machine cycle control, warning notifications, leak detection, and alarm activation.

Working Principle
In many industrial and automotive systems, it is necessary to monitor the pressure of fluids operating within the system. This requires linking a specific pressure value to an electrical switching signal.
Pressure switches perform this function by detecting fluid pressure through a sensitive element such as a diaphragm or piston. When the pressure reaches a predetermined value, the switch activates or deactivates an electrical contact.
The pressure switch can be calibrated using a set screw. This screw adjusts the compression of a calibration spring which counteracts the force exerted by the fluid pressure. Once the pressure reaches the defined threshold, the electrical contact changes state.
Electrical Contact Types
From an electrical standpoint, pressure switches are generally available in three main configurations:
Normally Open (NO) – SPST
In the Normally Open (NO) configuration, the electrical contact remains open when there is no pressure in the system.
When the defined pressure level is reached, the contact closes, allowing current to flow.
Normally Closed (NC) – SPST
In the Normally Closed (NC) configuration, the contact is closed when there is no pressure present.
When the pressure threshold is reached, the contact opens, interrupting the electrical signal.
Changeover Contact (SPDT)
In the SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) configuration, the pressure applied to the sensing element activates a microswitch, switching the connection between two circuits.
This configuration allows the use of:
Normally Open (NO) contacts
Normally Closed (NC) contacts
or both simultaneously.
Compliance and Standards
Euroswitch pressure switches are available with adjustable or fixed pressure settings and are designed in accordance with applicable European Union directives and standards, ensuring reliable performance in demanding industrial and automotive environments.
