Austrian industrial technology company Miba AG has agreed to acquire RENK Group's industrial plain-bearing business, marking the largest acquisition in Miba's history.
Announced on October 22, 2026, the transaction will expand Miba's production network and bearing technology expertise. Completion remains subject to approval by the relevant competition authorities.
The business being acquired employs approximately 500 people across five production facilities in Germany, the United States, Brazil, China and Japan. Its annual revenue is approximately €130 million, with its main location in Hanover, Germany.
Expanding Industrial Bearing Production
RENK's bearing business develops and manufactures plain bearings used in industrial applications, including electric motors, generators and pumps.
The acquisition will bring these activities into Miba's existing bearing operations, combining the engineering capabilities and manufacturing resources of both businesses.
According to Miba, the transaction is intended to strengthen its ability to develop bearing technologies for electrification and energy-related applications.
The company identifies electric motors, power generation infrastructure and marine propulsion among the areas where the combined expertise could be applied.
Relevance to Vehicle and Electrification Technologies
Miba already supplies various components to the automotive and commercial vehicle industries, including bearings, powder metal parts, friction materials, power electronics and coatings.
Bearing technologies play an important role in mechanical systems by supporting rotating components and managing friction and wear.
For the wider mobility sector, developments in bearing materials, design and manufacturing can be relevant to the evolution of electric motors and other rotating equipment.
However, the acquired RENK business primarily supplies industrial and civilian applications. Neither company has announced a specific bus or coach application resulting from this transaction.
Its potential implications for commercial vehicle technologies should therefore be considered separately from any confirmed product development or supply agreement.
RENK Refocuses Its Business
For RENK Group, the sale forms part of a strategy to concentrate more strongly on defence-related activities.
The company stated that the transaction will not affect the civilian business within its Marine & Industry division.
RENK's industrial bearing operations have been organized under RENK Bearings GmbH since October 2025.
The agreed transaction is subject to regulatory approval, and no completion date has been confirmed in the announcement.
Miba's International Manufacturing Network
Before the acquisition, Miba operated 30 production sites worldwide and employed approximately 7,400 people.
The company's activities cover components used in energy generation, transmission, storage and use, including applications in vehicles and industrial machinery.
Its revenue for the 2025/26 financial year exceeded €1.2 billion.
The acquisition represents a significant expansion of Miba's industrial bearing activities and manufacturing presence, particularly in technologies associated with electrification and energy infrastructure.
